There is a growing awareness in India about extensive damage being caused to the environment due to accumulation of waste materials from industrial plants, power houses, colliery pits and demolition sites, which has become one of the major environmental, economical and social issues. Waste materials are considered as unused, unwanted, and rejected substances that are posing a great environmental problem in disposing them into the air, water, and land. However, the proper utilization of these materials in the construction industry, as well as in making road pavements, can significantly alleviate environmental concerns. The substitution of waste materials will conserve dwindling resources and help avoid the ecological damages caused by extracting raw materials for cement production. Moreover, processing these waste materials can yield aggregates or fillers suitable for concrete, enhancing its properties and microstructure. The output of waste materials in India exceeds the production of cement and other construction materials, thus emphasizing the need for their integration into construction practices. This paper outlines the optimum utilization of waste materials in specific construction activities as a green concept, ultimately aiming to reduce environmental pollution.
