The study presents the results of a numerical analysis conducted to examine the flow structure of liquid steel within a one-strand slab tundish equipped with innovative flow control devices. The objective was to improve the internal work space of the tundish by implementing a subflux turbulence controller and a modified dam featuring two openings. Through the use of the Gambit application, a comprehensive numerical model and grid were developed, allowing for detailed visualization of flow dynamics. Numerical simulations provided insights into the interaction of the new flow control devices on hydrodynamic conditions, yielding results including liquid steel flow fields, turbulence intensity maps, and temperature distributions. Furthermore, response time distribution (RTD) curves and the percentages of stagnant, plug, ideal mixing flow types, and transitional flow zones were calculated. These computational findings demonstrate that the application of the proposed tundish equipment significantly enhances the slab continuous casting technology, indicating potential for improved operational efficiency in industrial conditions.
