Abstract

Language:

This critical review examines various solid phase sorbents and their effectiveness in the remediation of uranium from industrial waste streams and surface waters. With the growing consumption of nuclear energy, there is an increasing need to address uranium's environmental impact, as it can easily dissolve and transport in water sources. The review discusses uranium speciation in the environment and provides a detailed evaluation of recent literature on uranium remediation techniques, highlighting diverse solid phase materials employed for this purpose. The criteria for selecting optimal ion exchangers for uranium removal are analyzed, offering insights into their effectiveness and parameters for further assessment of these technologies. Ultimately, this review aims to contribute to the understanding and improvement of remediation methods employed to mitigate the risks posed by uranium contamination in various water bodies.
