This document assesses the Doctrine of Condonation and its impact on public office in the Philippines. The objective of this study is to analyze how the Doctrine affects the principles surrounding public trust and accountability among elected officials. Through a comprehensive review of relevant jurisprudence and administrative practices, the methodology employed includes qualitative analysis of existing legal precedents and a survey of the public's perception of elected officials' accountability. The results indicate that the application of the Doctrine tends to undermine the constitutional mandate that defines public office as a public trust, leading to a culture where re-election is often perceived not as a duty to serve but as a means to evade administrative liabilities. This perception fosters a slippery slope that diminishes public trust in governance and creates an uneven playing field in administrative proceedings. Consequently, the findings highlight the urgent need to reevaluate the Doctrine of Condonation and its implications on public office to restore legitimacy and accountability in the electoral process.
