This document provides an overview of heap leaching, a mining technique crucial for the economic extraction of certain ores that may otherwise remain unexploitable. The objective is to present heap leaching within the framework of Best Available Techniques (BAT) as established by European regulations. A comprehensive methodology employed includes gathering insights from industry experts and literature to illustrate modern practices and the environmental impact of heap leaching in mining operations. Results indicate that heap leaching is not only effective in recovering valuable minerals such as gold but also plays a significant role in promoting sustainability within the mining sector, particularly in Turkey. The findings highlight the importance of adopting environmentally sound methodologies that ensure a sustainable supply of raw materials while addressing economic viability. Overall, this document aims to inform stakeholders about the ethical considerations and technological advancements associated with heap leaching in mineral extraction processes.
