The Mackie VAT Leaching Jig presents a novel technique for the continuous leaching of precious metal ores using a jigging methodology. This patented method is designed to compete with traditional heap leaching in challenging environments such as northern climates, regions with difficult terrain, high precipitation, and those that are environmentally sensitive. The objective of this paper is to discuss the test work conducted thus far, plans for pilot plant testing, and the basic economics associated with this method. A detailed examination of the process reveals that wet ore is fed continuously into a vat, where a lixiviant is circulated through the ore bed, thus enhancing the leaching efficiency. Initial testing indicates the feasibility of this approach for larger material sizes, suggesting its competitive advantage over heap leaching. The implications of utilizing this technique are significant, particularly in light of increasing environmental scrutiny regarding conventional methods. Results have shown that the continuous flow and fluidization of the ore allow for effective extraction while addressing environmental concerns. This innovative approach could transform precious metal extraction practices moving forward.
