Abstract

Language:

This study aims to calculate short-circuit currents in a specified electrical system involving transformers and distribution components. Specifically, we analyze two identical transformers rated at 1000 kVA, focusing on their operational parameters such as nominal current, Joule losses, and equivalent circuit measurements. We implemented a detailed mathematical approach to derive the phase resistance and reactance based on transformer specifications and established formulas. The nominal current calculated for the transformers was found to be 1408 A, with a phase resistance of 1.68 mΩ leading to an overall transformer resistance of 0.84 mΩ when operated in parallel. Furthermore, the reactance obtained was 4.11 mΩ. Additional calculations incorporated the resistances and reactances of busbars and cables, which were determined using material resistivity values. The analysis concluded with short-circuit currents being calculated and compared across various components, including motors treated as generating units. This comprehensive evaluation ensures protection devices are correctly rated to handle short-circuit conditions, leading to recommendations for appropriate circuit breaker selections based on these calculations.
