Abstract

Language:

In this buzzing world, the love for coffee remains a constant despite busy lives. Coffee is indisputably one of the most preferred beverages globally, and its taste largely hinges on effective roasting processes. Traditional coffee bean roasters are predominantly manual, introducing the possibility of human error that can compromise not just the roasting profile but also the quality and quantity of the coffee produced. This study aims to automate the temperature control in coffee roasting to eliminate such inconsistencies, thereby enhancing product quality. A low-cost automated control system using a bypass valve and a solenoid actuator is designed to maintain optimal roasting temperatures. Various controllers, including PLC and analog circuits, are evaluated to facilitate these controls, with a focus on cost-effectiveness and availability of components within the industry. The implementation of a PLC is particularly emphasized due to its existing presence in many machines. Findings suggest that the proposed system significantly reduces human intervention, ensuring consistent coffee quality by maintaining ideal roasting conditions. The research underscores the feasibility of transforming a manual coffee bean roaster into a fully automated system, yielding a low-cost solution for enhanced coffee production reliability.
