The aim of this research is to extract zinc from complex lead and zinc ore containing carbon-silicate lead and zinc minerals using sulphuric acid. Samples taken from the Dareh Zanjireh mine in central Iran were subjected to leaching tests after a calcination process. Experiments were designed using the Taguchi statistical method, examining various parameters including mixing speed, temperature, time, solid-to-liquid ratio, and pH. The calcinated samples contained 13.98% zinc and the primary minerals were dolomite and zincate. Optimal conditions were determined to be a solid-to-liquid ratio of 1:6 g/mL at 60°C and a mixing speed of 800 rpm for 30 minutes, achieving a remarkable zinc recovery rate of 85.96%. This study highlights the potential of using sulphuric acid for effective zinc extraction from complex ores, presenting a viable method for improving recovery yields in mineral processing. Such findings contribute to the understanding of hydrometallurgical processes and the optimization of conditions required for efficient metal extraction.
