The third edition of the Special Issue of Metals focuses on advancing the fields of mineral processing and hydrometallurgy, which are essential for the extraction of critical minerals and metals required for renewable energy applications. This edition is unique as it merges these two disciplines, which are rarely considered together, thereby highlighting their combined significance in modern metallurgy. The methodology applied involves a comprehensive review of relevant literature and earlier editions to capture new advancements in techniques that enhance the efficiency of metal extraction processes. The results suggest that trends in hydrometallurgy, particularly related to aqueous processing of metals, show great potential in improving separation processes and treating low-grade materials for valuable metal recovery. Key insights reveal that the physical separation of valuable minerals from gangue is critical in maximizing the yield of enriched mineral concentrates, which can significantly impact industries reliant on these resources. Overall, the work emphasizes the crucial role of hydrometallurgy and mineral processing in supporting sustainable practices and meeting the growing demand for essential materials in the transition to renewable energy.
