Abstract

Language:

Lead smelter slags from two distinct sources were subjected to leaching using sulfurous acid and oxygen as the leachant to selectively dissolve zinc and copper while minimizing the dissolution of iron. The leaching behavior was analyzed and correlated with the variations in slag composition, elucidating the underlying mechanisms responsible for differing extraction rates. A mixed control shrinking core model was employed to model the relationship between fractional extraction and time, demonstrating its effectiveness in capturing the kinetics of the leaching process. The study concludes that tailored leaching conditions can significantly enhance metal recovery from complex slag compositions, showcasing the potential of hydrometallurgical techniques for efficient resource recovery in metallurgical processes.
