Accurate characterisation of acid rock drainage (ARD) potentials is essential for the development of effective waste management strategies. The objective of this study is to enhance the understanding of ARD behavior through the integration of mineralogical and leachate analyses. The methodology involves conducting laboratory-scale static tests alongside biokinetic tests to explore the ARD capabilities of waste materials and the behaviors of individual minerals under varying conditions. Results indicate that dissolution of carbonate and reactive silicates plays a critical role in the neutralising capacity of the waste, while the mineral behaviour observed in static tests provides valuable insights into performance in biokinetic tests. Moreover, elemental concentrations in leachate solutions correlate with findings from residual analyses, underscoring the importance of the combined approach for accurately predicting ARD hazards. This integration aids in better understanding the ARD behavior of sulfidic wastes, presenting an opportunity for improved waste management practices in the mining industry.
