Titanium is renowned for its unique physical and chemical properties that enable specific applications, yet its production faced challenges for nearly 150 years after its discovery in 1791. The objective of this chapter is to explore the advancements in the production and application of titanium alloys, particularly since the development of the Kroll process in 1940. This chapter synthesizes existing literature on the mechanical properties of titanium alloys, emphasizing the critical influence of plastic working and heat treatment on microstructure evolution. Methodologically, the chapter reviews various industrial applications of titanium alloys across multiple sectors, including aerospace, chemical, food, machine-building, and medicine. Results indicate that titanium alloys exhibit high relative strength and excellent corrosion resistance, making them suitable for diverse technological processes. However, challenges remain due to properties such as high chemical affinity to oxygen and significant dependence on strain rate for plastic flow resistance, complicating the production of finished products with desired microstructures and properties. Ultimately, this work underscores the broad applicability of titanium alloys while highlighting the necessity of further research to optimize their manufacturing processes.
