Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) welding is an advanced arc welding process utilizing a non-consumable tungsten electrode, which is gaining traction in industries as a substitute for manual metal arc and gas welding due to its efficiency in protecting the weld pool with inert gas shielding. This chapter provides a comprehensive overview of the TIG welding process, beginning with an introduction to its fundamental concepts, moving through the appropriate selection of materials, and discussing applications pertinent to the welding of magnesium and aluminum. Methodologically, the chapter addresses the operation of TIG welding machines, analyzes significant research findings, and outlines the principles of design related to the process. Emphasis is placed on process parametric behaviors and calculations pertinent to sample design data, which are critical for optimizing welding outcomes. The end of the chapter synthesizes various approaches to selecting parametric ranges essential for effective TIG welding, thus offering valuable insights to practitioners and researchers alike in understanding and enhancing the quality and efficiency of welding operations.
