In the evolving landscape of academic publishing, understanding cognitive biases that influence peer review processes is crucial. This study aims to identify and analyze various cognitive biases present in peer-reviewed publications and their impact on the objectivity and integrity of academic scholarship. A mixed-method research design was implemented, combining quantitative surveys of peer reviewers and qualitative interviews with editors from diverse disciplines. The results reveal a significant prevalence of cognitive biases such as confirmation bias, availability heuristic, and anchoring bias in the evaluation process. These biases not only affect the quality of the reviews but also contribute to the perpetuation of certain theoretical frameworks while overshadowing alternative perspectives. Furthermore, the findings indicate that awareness of these biases among reviewers correlates with improved review quality and outcomes. Recommendations for training interventions to mitigate cognitive biases in peer review are discussed, alongside the potential implications for future scholarly discourse and research integrity. This study underscores the importance of recognizing and addressing cognitive influences that can compromise the peer review process and calls for systemic changes to enhance transparency in academic publishing.
