This text-book constitutes Part I of ‘Engineering Metallurgy’ and is primarily intended for students pursuing metallurgy for a Higher National Certificate in Mechanical or Production Engineering. The objective is to provide a comprehensive approach to metallurgy for undergraduates studying it as an ancillary subject in an Engineering Degree course, facilitating their understanding of complex topics. The methodology includes a structured presentation of physical metallurgy principles, supported by examples and exercises designed to enhance the learning experience. Results indicate that this resource effectively prepares students for examination and practical applications, bridging theoretical knowledge with industry requirements. The author hopes that the text will serve both students for whom metallurgy is a principal focus and those who require foundational insights into the subject matter.
