Limonite, a collective for iron hydroxide argillaceous materials, presents significant challenges for treatment due to its diverse characteristics and high argillization during processing. This study focuses on the Huangmei limonite in Hubei, China, which illustrates typical limonite issues. Conventional methods yield an iron concentrate grade of merely 51.98% with a recovery of 86.64%. In contrast, the innovative approach of flash magnetic roasting-magnetic separation notably enhances outcomes, achieving a concentrate grade of 61.03% and a recovery of 91.17%. Comprehensive tests conducted on this method revealed optimal roasting temperatures ranging from 850 to 950 degrees Celsius, with a CO concentration above 2.0% and a solid/gas ratio below 0.8 kg/m3. The benefits of the flash magnetic roasting technique provide a robust solution for the recovery of complex refractory ores, showing improved adaptability and operational effectiveness compared to traditional processes. This methodology not only marks a significant advancement in the beneficiation of limonite but also offers insights into more efficient recovery techniques for similar iron-bearing minerals.
