The study investigates the adsorption of arsenites and arsenates from aqueous solutions using two modified natural inorganic materials: white tuff from the Strmos region and a material known as Zeofit from the Palanka region. The primary objective was to evaluate the effectiveness of these adsorbents in removing arsenic ions from drinking water sourced from Skopje. The materials were chemically modified to enhance their sorptive and ion-exchange properties. A kinetic study was performed to assess the adsorption capacity and mechanisms, revealing that Zeofit exhibited superior performance compared to white tuff, specifically under lower arsenic ion concentrations. The experimental results suggest a first-order kinetic model for white tuff, while Zeofit adsorption kinetics were better described by a pseudo-second order model. Overall, the findings underscore the potential of modified natural materials as viable adsorbents for arsenic removal from contaminated water supplies, addressing a pressing concern in regions with elevated arsenic levels.
