Abstract

Language:

This study investigates the efficacy of Fe-Mn-CO3 layered double hydroxides (LDHs) and Fe-Mn double oxides in removing selenium, particularly Se(IV), from aqueous solutions. The motivation for this research stems from the increasing prevalence of selenium contamination due to various anthropogenic activities such as mining, agriculture, and industrial operations. The methodology employed involved synthesizing the Fe-Mn materials and assessing their adsorption capacities through a series of experiments under controlled conditions. The results indicated that both Fe-Mn-CO3 LDHs and Fe-Mn double oxides demonstrated significant removal efficiencies for Se(IV), with the Fe-Mn-CO3 exhibiting superior capabilities in specific scenarios. This study contributes to the existing body of knowledge on selenium remediation technologies, particularly emphasizing the advantages of using Fe-Mn based materials due to their unique structural properties. The findings highlight the potential of these materials as effective adsorbents in water treatment processes aimed at reducing selenium levels to comply with environmental safety standards.
