Abstract

Language:

This study investigates the impact of partial substitution of Ni with Co in Mn-rich Ni-Mn-Ga alloys on their magnetic ordering attributes, critical for fostering significant magnetization differentials between austenite and martensite phases necessary for magnetic field-induced martensitic transformations. The specific composition of Ni42Co8Mn32Ga18 is examined to explore the correlation between martensitic transformation and austenite Curie temperatures, analyzing how quenching and subsequent ageing influence structural and magnetic transitions. Results reveal not only a monotonic alteration in the transformation temperatures primarily due to atomic ordering post-quenching but also an impactful relationship between the structural and magnetic ordering reactions affecting entropy changes during transformation. These findings highlight the potential of manipulating Co concentration and thermal treatments to optimize the magnetic properties of these ferromagnetic shape memory alloys, paving the way for enhanced applications in smart systems.
