High zinc concentration in basic oxygen furnace (BOF) steelmaking offgas cleaning system solid wastes is a significant obstacle to recycling these solid wastes in the sintering-blast furnace ironmaking process. This study aims to explore the feasibility of using zinc-free scrap in the BOF steelmaking process to avoid zinc contamination in BOF offgas solid wastes, thereby enabling their recycling. A computational model was developed to estimate the marginal price increment of zinc-free scrap based on the value changes of BOF og solid wastes, the ratio of BOF solid waste rates to the purchased galvanized scrap rates, and the pricing of galvanized scrap. The analysis reveals that varying market conditions, alongside fluctuations in iron ore prices, landfill costs, and demand for galvanized scrap, could make the use of zinc-free scrap economically viable in certain steelmaking contexts. The findings suggest that adopting zinc-free scrap could enhance the value of clean BOF solid wastes and foster more sustainable steel production methodologies in specific scenarios.
