Abstract

Language:

This document serves as a lecture note on the deformation behavior of materials, compiled for the 5th semester students of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering. The objective is to present a comprehensive overview of elastic, plastic, and visco-elastic deformation processes within the framework of continuum mechanics. The methodology encompasses fundamental concepts including stress and strain tensors, principal stresses, and the plastic response of materials, focusing on single crystal deformation through various mechanisms such as dislocation movement and twinning. Results emphasize the classification of stress-strain curves and the influential factors that govern material behaviors under loading conditions. Additionally, the document outlines the significance of structural properties in relation to crystal defects and their effects on mechanical characteristics. Overall, this compilation facilitates a better understanding of how metals respond to applied forces, thus aiding in the design of improved material applications.
