This paper presents the fundamental steps necessary to determine the values and minerals inherent in ore samples, which serve as the basis for metallurgical testing. The objective is to outline the selection of appropriate processes for ore treatment, followed by a discussion of the test procedures employed to evaluate amenability to treatment. These procedures have been refined through extensive laboratory evaluations to establish their effectiveness in practical plant processing scenarios. Although the focus of this paper is on conventional processes, special or uncommon processing techniques are not covered. Further emphasis is placed on the evaluation of test results and their integration into both preliminary and final flow sheets essential for plant design. The importance of a flow sheet, complete with material and water balances, is highlighted as critical to the successful design of metallurgical plants, ensuring optimized operations from both financial and metallurgical perspectives.
