The thesis is focused on the development of scientific, methodological and methodical principles for the structural and geographical study of mining areas in the Western region of Ukraine aimed at the practical implementation for the measures designed to improve the natural and economic systems. The study formulates the concept of landscape approaches and algorithms for analyzing environmental problems at mining areas and facilities while grounding the term 'mining geosystem.' It defines morphological landscape units and regional level units, outlines boundaries for the geosystems, and improves the program and methodology for solving environmental and geographic problems related to rational management in mining and minerals processing. Geoecological research methods tailored to mining areas are elaborated, emphasizing cartographic and geoinformation approaches. The classification of mining and post-mining geosystems is expanded, examining functional mechanisms, evolutionary changes, and the impacts of human activities. Additionally, the structural and geographical bases for optimizing mining and industrial geosystems are formulated, aimed at restoring productivity, enhancing economic and environmental value, and effective implementation of production functions and recreational facilities.
