Abstract

Language:

Power and energy are most valuable in the present technology-driven world. Therefore, research must be carried out for finding out the causes of their wastage and loss. This study aims to upgrade the power system to eliminate or at least minimize this loss, particularly in light of the increasing use of inductive loads and nonlinear semiconductors brought on by the industrial revolution. The methodology involved analyzing a 200kW load under specific conditions, focusing on the impact on power factor and associated financial implications. The results demonstrated that maintaining a power factor of unity significantly reduces monthly energy expenses, with calculations revealing a savings potential of Rs 99,360. To achieve a unity power factor, the study proposed installing capacitors, which involve a total investment of approximately Rs 319,372.88. The analysis showed that the installation would pay for itself in approximately 3.2 months, indicating a quick return on investment. Consequently, the study advocates for the installation of automatic power factor correction units in industries to reduce electrical energy consumption and prevent losses.
