This study investigates leaching behaviors of chrysocolla, a hydrated copper silicate mineral, through the application of different preheating methods and leaching agents. The objective was to determine optimal conditions for copper extraction from Arizona samples. Methodology included heating chrysocolla in various inert atmospheres followed by exposure to ammoniacal-ammonium carbonate and sodium cyanide solutions. Results indicated that heating at 350°C significantly enhanced copper extraction, with the formation of CuS04 and CuzO observed when heated in an SO2 atmosphere. Higher temperatures led to decreased leaching efficiency due to the formation of insoluble copper silicates. The findings provide valuable insights into the leaching potential of chrysocolla under different conditions and highlight the importance of preheating in optimizing copper recovery from this mineral.
