In this study, we synthesized Amberlite XAD-4 copolymer resin modified by rubeanic acid to effectively separate and preconcentrate metal ions such as Cu(II), Co(II), Ni(II), Cd(II), and Mn(II). The primary objective was to optimize various analytical parameters including pH, contact time, and batch capacity to achieve quantitative recoveries of the specified metal ions. A series of experiments were conducted wherein the preconcentration yields of Cu(II), Co(II), Ni(II), Cd(II), and Mn(II) achieved were 103.3 ± 2.6%, 96.8 ± 1.7%, 102.0 ± 3.0%, 90.3 ± 1.7%, and 97.2 ± 2.4%, respectively. Furthermore, the batch capacities for these ions were recorded as follows: Cu(II) 0.1243 ± 0.0036, Co(II) 0.2057 ± 0.0034, Ni(II) 0.2323 ± 0.0043, Cd(II) 0.1757 ± 0.0025, and Mn(II) 0.1888 ± 0.0034 mmol g-1 resin. The developed methodology demonstrated a preconcentration factor of 500, showcasing the resin's efficacy in isolating trace metal ions from environmental samples.
