The study investigates the oxidative leaching of mechanically activated sphalerite using various methodologies including BET, SEM, XRD, and EPR to analyze the changes in surface and bulk properties induced by mechanical activation in a vibrating mill. The research aims to determine the efficiency of zinc recovery from sphalerite when subjected to leaching with a 4% hydrogen peroxide solution under atmospheric pressure and room temperature conditions. Results indicate that a zinc recovery rate of 65-100% into the leach solution can be achieved within 120 minutes. The mechanical activation of sphalerite enhances both the surface area and bulk properties, significantly improving leaching kinetics. Additionally, the study highlights that the process does not impose any detrimental environmental effects, thus underscoring its potential for practical application in hydrometallurgical operations. Overall, the findings contribute valuable insights into optimizing leaching processes for sulfidic ores, emphasizing the role of mineral preparation methods on metal recovery efficiency.
