This paper explores the historical significance of Volta's 'contact tension' and its relation to the development of the dry pile technology. The objective is to understand the instrumental evidence that influenced scientific debates during the transition from classical high-tension electrostatics to Volta's low-tension voltaic experiments. Methodologically, the study draws on archival materials and historical texts, analyzing the context of the dry pile's evolution within the scientific discourse of the time. The results highlight the pivotal role played by the dry pile in shaping our understanding of electrical behavior, as it stood at the intersection between established theories and emerging scientific phenomena. The findings reveal that while the dry pile was initially viewed as a novelty, it contributed significantly to the discourse surrounding the authenticity and nature of electric phenomena, demonstrating the complexities of scientific evidence and the challenges of interpretation in the realm of early electrostatics.
