Abstract

Language:

This research focuses on the utilization of deep eutectic solvents (DESs) in the synthesis of polymers, addressing significant environmental concerns associated with solvent use in the polymer industry. The objective is to explore alternative reaction media that could minimize or eliminate organic solvents in polymer synthesis processes. The methodology involves analyzing the properties and formation mechanisms of DESs, particularly a eutectic mixture of choline chloride and urea, which exhibits a remarkably low melting point that makes them feasible for use at room temperature. Experimental results indicate that DESs maintain advantageous characteristics similar to conventional ionic liquids, such as being non-volatile and biodegradable, while also offering benefits in terms of reducing waste generation during polymer synthesis. The study demonstrates that the incorporation of DESs not only facilitates efficient polymerization processes but also aligns with sustainable chemistry principles. Overall, the research finds that deep eutectic solvents can serve as effective alternatives in polymer synthesis, promoting environmentally friendly practices within the industry.
