Soils polluted with heavy metals have become common across the globe due to an increase in geologic and anthropogenic activities. Heavy metals in the soil refer to significant heavy metals of biological toxicity, including mercury (Hg), cadmium (Cd), lead (Pb), chromium (Cr), nickel (Ni), and arsenic (As). The aim of this research study, conducted during the environmental impact assessment in 2007, was to evaluate the real situation of soil contamination with heavy metals within the industrial area of Ferronikeli before the plant activity resumed. The results indicate a concerning level of heavy metal presence, attributed to industrial development, which has significantly contributed to environmental deterioration. With the continuous growth of industry, the presence and types of heavy metals in soil have gradually increased, posing serious threats to both the environment and human health. This study emphasizes the urgent need for monitoring and remediation strategies to address soil contamination caused by industrial activities.
