Abstract

Language:

The Boudnib region in southeast Morocco faces significant challenges regarding water resource management, particularly due to its reliance on superficial aquifers which are being overexploited. This study aims to investigate and recognize the water resources of the Turonian aquifer located in the eastern part of the Boudnib basin. A combination of electrical drilling data and resistivity analysis were employed to reconstruct the geometric configuration of the aquifer system. The findings highlight the critical importance of deep aquifers in mitigating water shortages and present a detailed understanding of the underground geological units and their respective water potentials. The study contributes vital insights into the region’s geological and hydrogeological characteristics, emphasizing the necessity for sustainable management practices to preserve the water resources in light of ongoing desertification and climate variability. The results indicate a pressing need for future research into sustainable usage practices and further geophysical assessments to monitor the aquifer conditions periodically.
