The aim of this work is a proposal of innovative technology for metal waste processing, specifically targeting sludge and filtration cakes from galvanizing plants. This paper discusses the potential of obtaining zinc from galvanic sludge, which is a byproduct formed during galvanic plating. Optimizations were carried out in laboratory conditions for a leaching process in a sodium hydroxide environment, leading to the successful separation of zinc from iron as well as other organic and inorganic components present in the sludge. The resultant leach solution was then processed through electrolytic methods to achieve pure zinc, utilizing a stainless steel plate as the cathode and a nickel plate as the anode. The results presented include chemical analyses of both the intermediate and final products resulting from the hydrometallurgical processing steps. The findings contribute significant insights into the recycling potential of galvanic sludge, emphasizing the environmental and economic benefits of metal recovery from hazardous waste streams.
