This work presents a qualitative research aimed at investigating alternative ideas that hold high school pupils and students of the Department of Elementary Education at Alexandroupolis, about electricity especially at the microscopic level and on the other hand, to compare textbooks for their presentation of the microscopic structure of matter and electricity. The ultimate goal was to indicate, if any, difference between what is taught and what is understood by pupils and students and ways to reduce this discrepancy. The research of students and pupils was an open-ended questionnaires and clinical interviews. The conclusions of the investigation showed that the textbooks do not emphasize the central role of the electric field in the dynamical electrical phenomena while it seemed that students are unaware of this role.
