ISO 4967:2026 contains substantial technical changes and additions that serve to determine the inclusion content in steel to a significantly higher transparency and precision than before. They include the width definition as caliper width, the redefinition based on facing tangents of the maximum transverse distance for particles in a stringer, the mandatory rating of the full length of an inclusion regardless of its length, a categorization rule for stringers containing a mix of low and high aspect ratio particles, redrawn inclusion chart images, minimum sampling recommendations for Method A, clarified rules for DS inclusions, and the introduction of new global metrics. The determination of inclusion size and type according to ISO 4967:2026 puts an end to systematic underestimation of the true inclusion content of a steel.
