Abstract

Language:

This study aims to investigate the effectiveness of citric acid leaching in removing zinc from contaminated soil following a heavy medium separation process. A citric acid leaching test was conducted after initially removing lead and copper from soil samples, achieving varying removal ratios of zinc from 0% to 37.9% based on particle size. The citric acid leaching was optimized under specific conditions: a pulp density of 10%, an agitation speed of 200 rpm, a temperature of 50 °C, and a citric acid concentration of 2 mol/L for a duration of 2 hours. Results indicated that the removal ratio of zinc exceeded 95% under these conditions. The findings suggest that combining heavy medium separation with citric acid leaching presents a highly effective method for treating soil contaminated with various chemical forms of heavy metals, addressing an urgent environmental issue related to military operations and other sources of soil contamination.
