This design project focuses on the production of 50,000 metric tonnes of butadiene per year, aimed at addressing the growing demand for this crucial petrochemical feedstock in various industries. The objective is to develop an efficient and cost-effective process design that integrates various processing units while minimizing energy consumption and production costs. Methodologically, a detailed process flow diagram (PFD) and piping and instrumentation diagram (P&ID) were generated to illustrate the design, along with a comprehensive stream table that evaluates temperature, pressure, mass flow, and molar flow for each component in the production process. The results indicate a well-optimized process with specific attention to thermal and pressure conditions conducive to butadiene production, highlighting the precise operational parameters required to achieve the production target. This design not only meets the specified production rate but also ensures sustainability through process integration, which is a critical consideration in modern chemical engineering practices. The findings contribute valuable insights for future research and applications in the field of petrochemical production and process optimization.
