Abstract

Language:

This article discusses the critical role that nanomaterials systems play in addressing urgent global challenges related to energy and environment. With growing energy demand and sustainability concerns due to fossil fuel reliance, the focus shifts towards enhancing energy efficiency and adopting renewable energy sources. The objective is to explore the properties of nanomaterials, which are distinct from conventional materials and offer superior capabilities such as increased strength, toughness, and enhanced thermal and electrical conductivity. The methodology encompasses a review of properties allowing nanomaterials to potentially fulfill energy harvesting and storage needs, particularly in applications like supercapacitors, batteries, and fuel cells. Results emphasize the potential of nanomaterials and hybrid systems to significantly contribute to the realization of an effective hydrogen-based economy and to meet renewable energy demands, despite the ongoing challenges in these fields.
