Abstract

Language:

METSIM is a powerful program capable of modelling and simulating every known metallurgical and inorganic chemical process. The objective of this paper is to provide a comprehensive overview of METSIM’s capabilities and applications in process modeling and control. The methodology employed encompasses a review of the features of METSIM, highlighting its functionality in creating process flowsheets and its modules for mass and energy balances. The results demonstrate that METSIM is utilized globally by various industries to design, simulate, and control operations, effectively managing a wide range of processes from mining to tailings management. With its ability to process complex data including mineralogy and thermodynamic properties, METSIM offers significant advantages over traditional spreadsheets. Furthermore, its user-friendly programming language APL allows for customization and integration with other software, enhancing its utility in engineering applications. Overall, METSIM provides a robust platform for engineers to predict and engineer metallurgical processes efficiently.
