The neodymium-deficient nickelate Nd 1 .95NiO4+ı, a mixed conducting K 2 NiF4-type oxide, was evaluated as a cathode for solid oxide fuel cells (SOFC). This study aimed to investigate its electrochemical properties when integrated with planar Ni-YSZ anode-supported SOFCs, utilizing co-tape casted and co-fired HTceramix® cells. The methodology included the optimization of the cathode sintering temperature and the application of a strontium-doped lanthanum cobaltite layer as a current collector. The results demonstrated a significant current density of 1.31 A cm−2 at 0.70 V at 800 °C using hydrogen as fuel, achieved with small single cells. Additionally, impedance spectroscopy measurements were executed to analyze different resistive contributions and determine the corresponding equivalent capacities, shedding light on the electrochemical performance and optimization of cathode materials for SOFC applications.
