Abstract

Language:

This study introduces a novel leaching system known as the Sheta Extractor, designed to address the technical challenges of moving crushed solid ores against leaching solutions in a continuous countercurrent manner. The primary objective was to develop a practical solution for efficient uranium leaching from a coarse-grained fraction of uranium mineralized granite. The methodology involved a unique setup where crushed ore is moved against gravity, while the leaching solution flows in the opposite direction, allowing for gentle stirring and effective contact between the two phases. The system was tested for its performance in uranium leaching using sulfuric acid, achieving a leaching percent of nearly 50%. These results demonstrate the potential of this innovative leaching technique to enhance the extraction efficiency of uranium from coarsely crushed minerals, thereby reducing operational costs and improving solution concentration. This research contributes to the field of mineral processing by providing a novel approach to leaching that could facilitate better recovery rates of valuable resources from complex ore matrices.
