This editorial is the second part of a review on advancements in metal casting technology, exploring the state of the art, challenges faced by the industry, and emerging trends. The objective is to provide insights into both newly developed and revived technologies in the global metal casting sector. The methodology involves a comprehensive examination of recent technological developments related to metal casting, particularly focusing on high-pressure die casting (HPDC) of aluminum alloys, as well as the impact of factors like e-mobility and environmental concerns on industry practices. Results indicate that the landscape of metal casting is influenced by cycles of innovation and adaptation, responding to changing market demands and technological pressures. This review serves as a contextual framework for understanding key contributions to the accompanying Special Issue, highlighting areas for further research and discussion in the evolving field of metal casting technology.
