ABSTRACT Industrially proven nitrogen species catalyzed (NSC) acidic pressure leaching has been applied to a variety of ores, concentrates, and recycled materials. This versatile technology offers many advantages over conventional pressure oxidation, including lower temperatures and pressures, reduced capital and operating costs, faster throughput, and the ability to use less expensive materials of construction. The paper describes applications of NSC pressure leaching for the production of gold, silver, palladium, rhodium, zinc, germanium, gallium, cobalt, copper, and nickel, as well as for various recycled feedstocks. It also presents details and economic considerations for treating a refractory chalcopyrite copper- and gold-bearing ore using this process.
