Chalcopyrite (CuFeS2) is commonly used ore in the production of copper, but leaching of this ore is very slow and inefficient due to “passivation” during leaching at atmospheric conditions. This study aimed to overcome the drawbacks of passivation layers by roasting the concentrate supplied from Eti Bakır A.Ş. Küre Plant in Turkey at 600 °C for 1 hour before leaching. Box–Wilson procedure of statistical experimental design was utilized to identify the effects of significant leaching variables such as leaching time (X1; 10–120 min), solid/liquid ratio (X2; 0.01–0.20), and H2SO4 concentration (X3; 0.01–1.00 M) on copper extraction (%) from the roasted concentrate, with an objective of optimization. Regression analysis calculated the coefficients of the response functions, indicating that the estimates aligned well with the experimental outcomes. The optimal leaching parameters were determined to be 115 minutes for time, 0.116 for the solid/liquid ratio, and 0.71 M for H2SO4 concentration, resulting in a maximum copper extraction (%) value of 92.45%.
