Abstract

Language:

For all industrial and distribution sites, the lagging power factor of electrical loads is a common problem. This paper presents a solution to this issue by focusing on automatic power factor correction (APFC) in a three-phase system using capacitor banks. The objective was to develop a system that maintains the power factor as close to unity as possible, thereby reducing losses and improving efficiency. The methodology involved implementing a microcontroller that processes power factor values, enabling automatic adjustment of capacitor banks in a binary coding format when the power factor falls below a specified level. The system was experimentally set to maintain a power factor of 0.93. Results indicated that the automatic correction mechanism effectively managed the power factor and contributed to reducing losses in the system. The findings demonstrate that the proposed APFC system can significantly enhance the performance and reliability of power distribution in industrial settings.
