Rare-earth elements (REEs) are geologically widespread, but their mining and processing are concentrated in a limited number of countries. As demand for these elements rises, specific REEs may experience supply shortages. Various countries are exploring the production of REEs from secondary sources such as high-silica bauxite ore, given their economic potential and sustainability benefits. This study examines the recovery processes for aluminum (Al) and REEs from bauxite ore, emphasizing the sustainable utilization of these resources. It outlines the technological evaluation of these deposits in modern contexts, addressing acquisition methods and technical challenges. The research further highlights the potential of combining mechanical and thermal activation methods to enhance economic viability and minimize environmental impact by reducing fossil fuel consumption during heat treatment processes. The development of sustainable technologies for Al and REE recovery is crucial for addressing supply risks and providing alternative sources for REE production, thereby contributing to resource management and environmental sustainability.
