This study explores the integration of a fiber optic-based distributed sensing system (DSS) with a large volume pressure vessel to provide high spatial resolution and time-resolved measurements of temperature-strain (TS) values in experimental sediment-gas hydrate systems. The objective is to characterize areas of gas hydrate formation and decomposition through time series analysis of data collected along optical fibers embedded within the sediment. The methodology involves conducting experiments in the Sea-floor Process Simulator at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, where the DSS visualizes TS values along the fiber length over time. Results demonstrate that the system effectively captures hydrate formation and dissociation events at anticipated pressure-temperature conditions consistent with the CH₄-H₂O thermodynamics. The findings illustrate that the high spatial resolution afforded by fiber optic technology makes the DSS a valuable tool for real-time visualization of gas hydrate dynamics in large-scale sediment experiments.
