This study addresses the challenges in text extraction from heavily distorted academic documents. The objective is to analyze the limitations of current optical character recognition technologies when applied to images with significant artifacts. A combination of qualitative observations and quantitative assessments was employed to evaluate the efficacy of various extraction methodologies on commonly encountered distortions. Results indicate that optical character recognition tools often fail to deliver accurate and coherent text from images that exhibit severe quality degradation, resulting in a significant loss of potentially valuable information. Recommendations include improving scanning techniques and developing more robust character recognition algorithms to enhance the reliability of text extraction from challenging documents.
