During the last fifty years, significant changes brought by information and communication technology (ICT) have influenced various sectors, including libraries. This study evaluates the current status of ICT applications specifically in medical libraries in Lahore, Pakistan's second largest city. The research aims to assess the extent of automation, the availability of Internet resources, the Higher Education Commission (HEC) Digital Library resources, and the overall functionality of medical library websites. A comprehensive evaluation was conducted in which the current state of ICT integration in these libraries was observed. Results indicate that while libraries in developed countries advanced their automation efforts two decades ago, Pakistani libraries are gradually catching up despite the slow pace of ICT adoption. The growing trend of ICT applications was corroborated by several case studies, highlighting an optimistic trajectory for library services in Lahore. Furthermore, the findings emphasize the evolving role of librarians, who are progressively integrating technology to enhance library operations and information accessibility. This analysis ultimately provides a foundational understanding of how ICT is transforming the landscape of medical libraries in Lahore and offers insights relevant to the broader context of library automation in developing countries.
