This study aims to investigate the impact of ultraviolet (UV) radiation on the photosynthetic efficiency of terrestrial plants. As climate change progresses, the increase in UV exposure raises concerns regarding its effects on plant biology and overall ecosystem health. To explore this, controlled experiments were conducted, wherein samples of various plant species were subjected to different levels of UV radiation. Photosynthetic efficiency was measured using chlorophyll fluorescence techniques, in addition to growth metrics and biomass accumulation. The results indicate that elevated UV radiation significantly reduces photosynthetic efficiency across the majority of species tested, with notable variances based on species type and UV intensity. Increased UV levels inhibited electron transport rates and reduced pigment concentrations, thereby decreasing overall photosynthesis rates. This research underscores the importance of considering UV radiation as a critical factor influencing plant health and productivity, particularly in the context of climate change. Additionally, recommendations for future research and potential strategies for mitigating UV effects on plants are discussed.
